Holidays 4 Wellbeing

This year the holidays may look very different for everyone, but we hope you get involved with our work at SignHealth in new ways and help us spread some joy this season.

2020 has been a difficult year. Coronavirus has had a big impact on our lives, changing how we live, work, and socialise in ways that affect our wellbeing.

As Christmas may look very different this year, we encourage you to still celebrate with your friends and family but to do it online, currently a much safer way to connect and have fun. Joining a festive event or organising your own is a great way to spread some joy. You’ll also be giving to others by supporting SignHealth’s services that improve the wellbeing of Deaf people.

Happy Holiday Hat Selfie Challenge

Spread some joy with a festive hat and help us raise awareness about mental health. Post your most festive, over the top selfie with a holiday hat, nominate others to as well, and give £3 to SignHealth to support the mental wellbeing of Deaf people. How many people can you challenge to take part?

DEAF IDENTITY Christmas for a good cause

Deaf Identity Christmas Cards

Reach out to a loved one this Christmas with a handwritten Christmas card! Spread some joy in support of our work improving the health and wellbeing of Deaf people.

DEAF IDENTITY have chosen to donate 15% of sales to SignHealth, and we’re so proud to partner with a company that champion’s deaf talent, beautiful designs and positivity.

Virtual Fundraising Activities

With so many pubs and clubs closed, it is hard to get together this year, but let’s not let that hold us back from having some fun together! Host a virtual pub quiz, games night, tea party or movie night, invite your friends and encourage people to get involved for a good cause.

Giving Tuesday

December 1st is a day for generosity and chance to give back to the causes and charities that you believe in. After all that has happened this year, consider supporting our mission at SignHealth to improve the health and wellbeing of Deaf people as we face the ongoing pandemic together.

Give to SignHealth today

Not sure what you want for Christmas?

Ask your family to donate to your Facebook SignHealth fundraiser this year instead. Just set up a fundraising page on Facebook, tell your story, why you care and what your hopes are for the year ahead. Asking for donations instead of gifts is a powerful act of generosity!

Why SignHealth?

Due to a lack of accessible information provided by the Government in BSL, SignHealth has produced daily coronavirus briefings.  The Deaf community has had a hard time accessing GP and hospital services as these are currently provided by telephone only. In response to this, SignHealth set up BSL Health Access, a service to provide free interpreters for Deaf people accessing health services.

For the holidays this year, our focus is on mental health. Christmas can be a difficult time for people with mental health challenges but coronavirus brings added difficulties, Deaf people may be more isolated as they may not be able to see friends, family and colleagues due to coronavirus restrictions.

This year we will focus on the stories of Deaf people we have met with through our Psychological Therapy Service; stories of courage, positivity and hope that things can and will change.
